About Flensted

Flensted was founded in 1966 by Ole Flensted. It all started with potatoes and a mission to provide inspiring, high-quality products to Danish restaurants. Ever since then, Flensted has been dedicated to innovating and delivering potato products of a quality that is as close to homemade as possible. Today, our products are sold to the foodservice, industrial, and retail sectors.

Flensted is a family-owned business. Since 2008, we have been part of the German family-owned group, Wernsing Food Family, which operates exciting food production facilities throughout Europe.

We’re based in Skovlund, West Jutland—surrounded by potato fields that remind us every day of where it all began. We’re driven by—and committed to—delivering the very potato products that consumers prefer on their plates.

1966

Flensted was founded in Copenhagen by Ole Flensted. Until 1986, the company was called Sanalco, but it subsequently changed its name to Flensted. The company began with a clear vision of supplying quality products to the Danish market. In the early days, production focused on fresh French fries, which quickly became popular among both local restaurants and catering companies. The products were sold primarily to the foodservice sector, where they gained a reputation for their freshness and taste.

With a constant commitment to innovation and quality, Flensted is working to expand its product line and reach more customers. Ole Flensted’s dedication and passion for cooking play a central role in the company’s success and growth.

1968

Production is being moved to a farm on Adelvej in Skovlund, marking an important milestone for Flensted. This strategic location, close to potato farmers and fresh ingredients, enables a more efficient and sustainable production process. By being close to local farms, the company can ensure that the potatoes—which form the basis of its production—are always of the highest quality and as fresh as possible.

This move also reduces transportation costs and environmental impact, as the raw materials now have only a short distance to travel to the production facility. The move to Skovlund underscores Flensted’s commitment to quality and sustainability, and it is a key factor in maintaining their reputation as a reliable supplier to the foodservice sector.

1975

Fresh MINUT potatoes are being launched as the first of their kind in the world, marking a groundbreaking innovation in the food industry. These potatoes are completely unique, as they are produced without additives and using advanced autoclave technology.

1983

Flensted is expanding its production to include ultra-fresh cut vegetables, marking an exciting new chapter. This expansion means that Flensted can now supply a wider range of products to the foodservice sector, meeting the growing demand for fresh and healthy ingredients.

Ultra-fresh cut vegetables are carefully selected and processed to ensure the highest quality and freshness, so that customers can offer their own customers the best ingredients. This initiative is also part of Flensted’s overall strategy to promote health and well-being by offering nutritious and fresh foods.

1990

Flensted is launching exports to Europe, marking an important milestone in Flensted’s growth strategy. This new initiative opens up a broader market, allowing Flensted’s high-quality products to reach a larger customer base beyond Denmark’s borders.

Exports include a selection of Flensted's most popular products, including fresh French fries, which have earned recognition for their high quality and great taste.

2001

A new fresh-cut vegetable plant is being built at Nørremarken in Skovlund, marking a significant expansion of Flensted’s production capacity. The location at Nørremarken was strategically chosen for its proximity to local raw material suppliers, which minimizes transport time and ensures maximum freshness of the ingredients used.

The new factory will create more jobs in the area and contribute to the local economy. At the same time, it will enable Flensted to meet the growing demand for fresh, healthy products from both domestic and international markets.

2008

Wernsing Food Family is acquiring Flensted, marking the beginning of a new era. This acquisition integrates Flensted into a larger international food group, providing access to new resources and markets. Through this integration, Flensted will be able to benefit from synergies and expertise within the Wernsing Food Family, which will further enhance product quality and innovation.

2012

The acquisitions of Danika, Slice Fruit, Kolding Salater, and Lammefjords Grønt mark a significant expansion for Flensted. These acquisitions bring a wide range of new products and expertise to Flensted, strengthening its market position. With these additions, Flensted can now offer an even wider selection of fresh and healthy foods to its customers.

As part of this growth, Flensted is introducing a new strategy and a new executive team.

2018

All production is consolidated at the two locations in Skovlund, which streamlines operations. With a new line of convenience meal solutions, Flensted is meeting the growing demand for high-quality, quick meal solutions.

The new facilities include a state-of-the-art cold storage and freezer facility for optimal storage, as well as an innovation kitchen for developing new products. Employee amenities improve working conditions for staff, which boosts well-being and productivity.

The locations are equipped with CO2-reducing heating systems as part of Flensted’s sustainability efforts. Flensted is also publishing its first sustainability report, which documents the company’s progress and future goals in the area of environmental responsibility.

2021

In 2021, Flensted will significantly strengthen its commercial operations. The company is recruiting experienced professionals with extensive experience in the food industry to optimize Flensted’s approach to the market. New marketing strategies and an expanded network of partners are intended to increase awareness of Flensted’s products and strengthen the brand’s market position.

2023

Flensted is launching a new strategy titled “Focus, Simplification & Anchoring.” This strategy aims to strengthen the company’s core areas by focusing on the most profitable and growth-oriented segments. The goal is to simplify internal processes and structures. Flensted is increasing efficiency and reducing operational complexity.

At the same time, Flensted has decided to shut down its deli and fresh-cut vegetable production. This strategic decision was made to focus resources on the core business and strengthen the company’s position in potato production.

2024

Flensted is growing—a new French fries factory is on the way!

We have taken the first step toward the future with the construction of our new, state-of-the-art French fries factory.

This investment marks an important milestone in Flensted’s development and supports our ambition to deliver even more high-quality potato products to our customers.

With a focus on innovation and sustainability, we are building a factory that will both increase our capacity and optimize production—so that we can continue to supply the market with high-quality potato products.

Meet our passionate growers

We have built up a long-standing partnership with skilled and passionate growers who, year after year, supply high-quality raw materials for our production.
When we say that our production facility is surrounded by potato fields, that is absolutely true. Most of our growers live within a 30-km radius of our factory in Skovlund, and several of them have been supplying potatoes to Flensted for generations.
We value our close partnership with our growers, who, like us, care deeply about the ingredients and the responsibility that comes with growing them.
