Thoughtful Actions

Useful Potato Peelers

Large quantities of potato peels are a natural byproduct of our production. They are converted into biogas at facilities in our local area, which supply gas to the public natural gas grid.

Focus on Responsible Consumption and Production

As a food producer, we have the opportunity to make a difference when it comes to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. That is why we support them.

We support vulnerable groups in society

That is why we support the Food Bank and the Julemærkehjemmene, just as we adhere to official dietary guidelines in our product development and communications.

Resources

Our focus on ensuring responsible resource use—which we optimize year after year wherever possible—encompasses both the way we handle our raw materials and how our customers use the final products. That is why it is important that our production team is skilled at ensuring we make optimal use of the raw material—the potato. And that we inform our customers about the products’ functionality and proper preparation to preserve as much of the product as possible. In connection with our potato production, by-products are generated in the form of potato peels and rejected potatoes. In addition, there is process water that has served its purpose in the production process.

We convert these by-products into a pulp product by crushing them and adding the aforementioned process water. In total, this amounts to approximately 40,000 metric tons. The pulp product is sold to biogas plants located in our local area. In this way, we contribute to greater energy self-sufficiency in Denmark.

Environment & Climate

We are very mindful of our impact on the environment and the climate. That is why we have an environmental and climate policy for the entire Flensted organization, in which we focus on minimizing our impact on the environment. We have a state-of-the-art biofuel boiler for producing steam and hot water, which is used in potato production. The biofuel boiler is a key component in our efforts to reduce CO2 emissions from our production through the optimized use of wood chips as an energy source and the reduction of oil and natural gas consumption.

Suppliers

Being a responsible company doesn’t just place demands on us. It also requires us to set standards and establish expectations for our suppliers. That’s why we continuously ensure that actions are taken in accordance with our values and policies throughout our entire value chain. In practice, this means that our suppliers must comply with our Code of Conduct (Supplier Code of Conduct, SCC), and we regularly verify the documentation for the raw materials they supply to us. The SCC compliance rate in 2023 was approximately 85%.

It is important that both we and our suppliers respect and adhere to internationally recognized human rights standards. That is why we have a corporate policy on human rights compliance that our suppliers must adhere to. This policy is based on international human rights standards and conventions.
