We support vulnerable groups in society

FOOD SAFETY

In a world where many people struggle with poor nutrition, health challenges, and obesity, we want to take responsibility and help make a difference. We do this by offering a selection with plenty of vegetables and by letting people know that potatoes aren’t as bad for you as many have mistakenly believed. We also do this by inspiring our customers and consumers to create appealing and healthy meals. And we do this by developing more and more healthier products, including those with the Keyhole label.

Through our support for the Julemærkehjemmene, we help promote healthy eating habits among children in Denmark, and in our marketing, we highlight responsible portion sizes that do not encourage overeating. In recent years, we have also actively supported the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration’s efforts to develop new, up-to-date dietary guidelines and their campaign promoting these guidelines in early 2021.

We will continue to work to spread knowledge about nutrition and healthy lifestyles through research, collaboration, and communication. Our goal is to contribute to a world where everyone has access to healthy and nutritious food, and where health-promoting initiatives are an integral part of our corporate strategy.

What is the Food Bank?

The Food Bank is a vital organization that effectively addresses food waste and hunger issues. Here are three of its most notable characteristics:

  • Reducing Food Waste: The Food Bank is actively working to reduce food waste by collecting surplus food from producers, supermarkets, and restaurants that would otherwise have been thrown away. This effort helps maximize the use of resources and reduces the environmental impact.
  • Fighting Hunger: By distributing the collected food to charities and social institutions, the Food Bank helps combat hunger among vulnerable groups in society. Their work ensures that those who lack food have access to nutritious and healthy meals.
  • Partnerships and Collaboration: The Food Bank builds and maintains important partnerships with businesses, volunteer organizations, and public institutions to increase its collection and distribution capacity. Its ability to collaborate across sectors strengthens its impact and enables a more comprehensive effort to combat food waste and hunger.

“The Food Bank delivers surplus food to approximately 365 distribution sites for disadvantaged and vulnerable people across the country five days a week,” says Lea Gry von Cotta–Schønberg, director of the Food Bank.

“We have about 250 food donors, and our partnership with Flensted has been in place for about 5 years and is incredibly valued by us because there is an ongoing and constructive dialogue at both the operational and management levels, characterized by friendliness, professionalism, and integrity. The stability of this partnership is unique and valuable to the people who receive the food, as we have been able to consistently count on deliveries from Flensted for such a long time.”

And because Flensteds’ products are of exceptionally high quality and contribute to healthy, varied meals for residents at housing facilities, shelters, and crisis centers. Potatoes are very filling, and that’s a unique benefit right now, when the food crisis has affected the ability of many particularly vulnerable people to include fruits and vegetables in their meals.

"The food is always fresh and easy for us to handle, and our many volunteers and I are constantly delighted by the huge difference Flensted’s food makes for these people."
